How We Rank Credit Cards
Every card on FindMyCard is scored against the same set of factors, whether or not the issuer runs an affiliate program with us. Here's exactly what goes into a rating, what we check before publishing, and what we deliberately leave out.
What goes into a rating
A card's star rating isn't a single formula spat out by a spreadsheet. It's built from four weighted factors, checked against the card's actual terms rather than its marketing copy:
- Net reward yield. We estimate the effective cashback or points return across realistic monthly spending, not just the headline "up to X%" rate that only applies to one narrow category.
- Fee versus value. Whether the welcome bonus, milestone benefits and fee waiver thresholds genuinely offset the annual fee for a typical cardholder, or whether the waiver conditions are unrealistic for most people.
- Redemption flexibility. How easily points convert to statement credit, vouchers, or airline and hotel miles, and whether there are hidden restrictions on when or how you can redeem.
- Travel and lifestyle perks. Lounge access conditions (not just the headline visit count), forex markup, insurance cover, and other benefits, weighted by how usable they actually are.
Cards aimed at different audiences aren't judged against each other on the same curve: a lifetime-free cashback card isn't penalized for lacking airport lounge access, and a super-premium travel card isn't rewarded just for existing.
What we check before publishing
Card terms come from official issuer sources: bank websites, MITC (Most Important Terms and Conditions) documents, and the issuer's app or portal where relevant. Each card carries a "Verified" date on its review page, which reflects when we last confirmed its terms against the source rather than when the page was last edited for wording. If you spot something that's changed since that date, tell us and we'll check it.
What we don't do
- We don't accept payment for a higher rating, a better rank position, or a more favorable review. See our Editorial Policy for how affiliate compensation works and where it does and doesn't influence what you see.
- We don't publish an
AggregateRatingbased on fake review counts. Our ratings are our own editorial assessment, not a crowd-sourced score. - We don't recommend a card we wouldn't consider applying for ourselves, given the same spending pattern and goals.
Who's behind FindMyCard
FindMyCard is run by two people who are, honestly, just into credit cards.
